Heart Attack Diagnosis And Meds Flashcards
Diagnoses methods for heart attack
ECG, Blood Work, and history such as questions and answers; duration and onset of symptoms
Common Symptoms of a heart attack
Chest pain ( crushing heavy), shortness of breath, radiating pain, Nausea / vomitting, profuse sweating. Symptoms should have lasted more than 20 minutes
\
Symptoms for women having a heart attack
Nausea, vomitting, dizziness, black outs more often than men. If it’s a diabetic patient there might not be any pain due to nerve damage.
How to read EKG
P wave reads the atrial contraction/ depolarization, QRS complex reads ventricular contractions and atrial relaxation, T wave reads ventricular relaxation
What is a STEMI
STEMI can be caused by ST elevation which can occur during a myocardial infarction which is a full thickness infarct.
What is a Non STEMI
ST depression is a non STEMI where there is a partial thickness myocardial infarction.
What does the blood work will show for a heart attack
Looks for cardiac markers which get released into the blood stream when in a heart attack the membranes ruptures releasing these proteins called troponin, myoglobin, and creatinine kinase MB, especially Troponin T and Troponin I.
Medications given during heart attack ?
Aspirin - to prevent blood clot
Thrombolysis - to break down the clot and reaper fuse but only given for STEMIs
Beta blockers - reduces heart rate
Nitrates - vasodilators
Anticoagulants - prevent blood clots
Statins - low plaques and cholesterol
Ace inhibitors - reduces blood pressure
