how does a cochlear implant work
1- sounds picked up by micorphone
2 speech provessor digitizes sound into signal sents to tramiitting coil
3 transmitting coil sends coded signals as radiwaves to cochlear implant
4 internal porcessor placed in mastoid bone deliverals electial energy to an array of electordes in the cochlea
5 the electordes laong the array stimulate remaining auditory nerve fibres in cochlea
6 electrical sound info sent to auditory system in brain
when is cochlear implant indicated
hearing worse than or equal to 90dB at 2 and 4Hz
and
in adults if aided hearing BKB score <50%
