Infections that occur in the setting of providing healthcare that are neither present nor incubating at the time of admission, so onset is generally 48 hours after admission
Why are healthcare infectiosn important?
Frequent- in 8% of patients, have an impact on healthcare and healcare infections and are usually preventabel
What are the common bacterial hospital aquired infections?
Staph aureus, TB, klpeseilla and pneumonaie, l
What are some of the common viral hospital aquired infections?
Blood bourne including hepatitis B and C, influenze, chicken pos, Norovirsus
What are the common fungal hospital aquired hosptial awuired infections?
Candida albicans, and aspergillus
What are some of the patient factors that affect their suspecitibity to hospital aquired infections?
Obseity/ malnutrition, extremes of age, emergency admission, immunsupression and diabetes
What are some of the patient interventions you can do to prevent the spread of hospital acquired infections?
Generalise such as optimising the patients health, hand hygien, skin prepartion and antimircobial prophalxis as isoloation of infected paitents, and protection of suspecibel paitnts, and specifc MRSA sprads and mucoporin nasal spray
What are some of things that healthcare workers can do to haut the spread of infection?
Making sure that healthcare workers are healthy disease free and vaccinated, and good practice with hand washing ad antibotic prescribing and the sterile non touch technique
What are the environmental alterations that can be made to change the hosptial aquired infections?
The built environment, toliets and the space lauout, the furnishings, postive and negative pressure rooms, and cleaning using disinfectant and steam cleaning, and medical devices, single use equipment, sterelisation, and decontimination
