anterior fontnelle - 1-3 years
What is Microcephaly?

<2 SD: mild
OFC <3 SD: moderate/ severe
- antenatal, postnatal, genetic and environmental

- separation of sutures, large fontanelles , large brain, hydrocephalus
– facial features, hepatosplenomegaly, bony deformities
what is Plagiocephaly ?
‘flat-head’ on one side
what is Brachycephaly?
short head or flat at back
what is Scaphocephaly?
boat shaped skull
what is Craniosynostosis?
premature fusion of the cranial sutures - brain doesn’t have space to grow
most common reason for funny head shape?
Deformational plagiocephaly
- position the child is in
- parallelogram shape
Features of Deformational plagiocephaly?
ipsilateral frontal bossing
ipsilateral ear displaced anteriorly
contralateral occipital bossing
ipsilateral occipitoparietal flattening
Craniosynostosis - means?
sutures have fused too early
