Tension headache
usually bilateral; across the frontal, temporal and/or occipital region of head: forehead, sides and back of head
- Bandlike tightness, viselike; Non-throbbing
-Gradual onset, last 30 minutes to days
Migraine
Commonly one-sided but may occur on both sides. Pain is often behind the eyes, the temples, or forehead
- Throbbing, pulsating pain
-Rapid onset, peaks 1-2 hrs, lasts 4hr-72hr, sometimes longer
Cluster headache
Always one-sided. Often behind or around the eye, temple, forehead, cheek
- Continuous, burning, piercing, excruciating
- 30 min- 2 hr
Normocephalic
normal anatomic description
- round skull, proportionate, symmetric
palpitation of thyroid gland
anterior and posterior approach
- auscultate for bruit if enlarged
Myxedema
hypothyroidism
swelling and thickening of the skin
Graves disease
Hyperthyroidism
- too much thyroid hormone
- bulging eyes
Exophthalmos
bulging eyes
Cachectic appearance
sunken eye orbits
skin emaciated
muscle wasting
