Q

Muscle and function?

A

Buccinator: Press cheek against molars (aiding in chewing) but also compresses distended cheeks for air expulsion.

Note: it is still considered a facial expression muscle therefore innervated by facial.

Q

Where does the facial nerve EXIT the skull?

What does it penetrate?

What are the different branches?

A

Through the stylomastoid foramen (but entered through internal acoustic meatus).

Penetrates the parotid gland and gives temporal, zygomatic, buccal, mandibular and cervical. (Also gives off two posterior branches, one called posterior auricular and one for posterior belly of digastric).

16
Q

___________ veins pass through the superior orbital fissure and enter the _______ _______.

A

Opthalmic veins, cavernous sinus.

17
Q

What is the name of the plexus of veins in the jaw area? How does it communicate with cavernous sinus?

A
18
Q

The opthalmic division goes in the base of the skull through the ____________. It then gives 3 branches, the ____________, ____________ and ____________. It is motor/sensory/mixed.

A
19
Q

What does the lacrimal nerve supply? Which branch has it come from?

A

It passes laterally to supply the lateral skin and conjunctiva of the upper eyelid.

20
Q

The frontal nerve from the __ division of the trigeminal nerve gives rise to two nerves. A larger __________ and a smaller _________. These supply the…..

A

V1, supraorbital (larger), supratrochlear (smaller).

Supply the upper eyelid, forehead and scalp.

21
Q

Where does the nasociliary nerve come from?

What nerve does it give rise to?

What does it supply?

A
  • Sensory nerve to the eye.
  • Gives rise to the external nasal nerve which supplies the skin to the dorsum of the nose.
22
Q

The maxillary division of the trigeminal nerve is motor/sensory/mixed. It leaves the base of the skull through the _____________ where it enters the ________ fossa.

A

Pure sensory, foramen rotundum, pterogopalatine fossa.

23
Q

The infraorbital nerve comes from the ___ branch of trigeminal. Explain its pathway and what it supplies?

A
24
Q

The zygomatic nerve comes from the ___ branch of the trigeminal. Explain its pathway and what it innervates?

A
25
Q

The mandibular division of trigeminal nerve is motor/sensory/mixed. It descends through the ______ _______. It gives a nerve to the ______ _______ muscle and then divides into anterior and posterior branches.

A

mixed nerve, descends through foramen ovale, medial pterygoid muscle.

26
Q

What branches do each of the anterior and posterior divisions of the mandibular division (V3) give? Are they sensory or motor?

A
27
Q

What is this nerve and what does it supply?

A
28
Q

What is this nerve and what does it supply?

A

Buccal nerve: supplies the cheek.

29
Q

What is this nerve and what does it supply?

A

Mental nerve.

30
Q

What are the branches of the cervical plexus?

Where is the cervical plexus found before it branches?

What does it supply?

A
31
Q

Which nerve is green pointing to? What does it supply?

What is it a branch of ?

A

Greater auricular nerve supplies the skin over the auricle/pinna (the ear) and angle of the mandible.

  • Cutaneous branch of cervical plexus.
