What makes a good standard?
Measurable, achievable, aligned with company’s mission. Must have empl. buy in.
How can Motivational Theories be applied to work standards?
Workers will be motivated if achieving and surpassing the standard is achievable and will be rewarded. The Expectancy theory applies here.
Expectancy- Can I surpass standard output?
Instrumentality- What will the outcome be? Will i be exhausted or injured? Will I get paid more? Piecework?
Valence- What value do i attribute to those outcomes?
How is goal setting theory used to ensure maximum success, and meeting of standards?
Setting Standards-Give workers a say in what the standard will be
Maintaining Standards- Support workers: goal creators should help adjust trajectories
Rewarding of Standards- Rewards help to facilitate the fulfillment of goals. By tying a benefit to a goal, completion is motivated.
