What are the power supply requirements for GMDSS?

ALSO select letters dor the sea areas operating in. It is easy to confuse the letter for msg categories, for the letters for sea areas

Pan Pan - Urgent message regarding safety of vessel or person

How would you send a Mayday Relay?
By voice only, not DSC
Reciept of Distress, VHF, Mid atlantic
Listen Ch 16 for comms, immediately acknowledge
Call Master
Gather as much info as possible
Consider Relay by voice
Proceed to the casualty at best speed
establish comms with CRS and other nearby vessels
prep to assist
Xband to look for Sart
look outs
rescue boat
Medical team
Receipt of a distress, VHF, A1
Listen Ch16, defer for 5 mins to allow CG to respond
Call master
If no response from CG, acknowledge by voice
Gather info
Consider Mayday relay by voice
Proceed to the casualty at best speed
establish comms with CRS and other nearby vessels

How long before departure should the Navtex be switched on?
Check in Vol 5 for broadcast times of appropriate stations, have it switched on early to make sure you recieve them

What would you do if you see a red flare?
Take a bearing, approximate position
Then mayday relay
What to do if accidentally send DSC alert, or activate EPIRB
Reset alert, equipment
Broadcast a message by voice cancelling the alert if vhf/MF/ HF
Contact nearest RCC to cancel alert
