Gluteal region musculature Flashcards
Gluteus maximus prox/distal attachments
Prox: posterior gluteal line, thoracic lumbar fascia, sacrotuberous ligament
Distal: 80% iliotibial tract, 20% distal tendon to gluteal tuberosity
Innervation and blood supply of gluteus maximus
The inferior gluteal nerve (L5-S2) and the inferior gluteal artery
Actions of the gluteus maximus
hip extension, external rotation; abduction (sup) adduction (inf)
Back ext in closed chain
Tensor fasciae latae prox/distal attachments
Prox: iliac crest and ASIS (anterior superior iliac spine)
Distal: iliotibial tract down to gerdys tubercle
Tensor fasciae latae innervation and blood supply
Superior gluteal nerve (L4-S1) and the superior gluteal artery
Tensor fasciae latae actions
hip flexion, internal rotation, and abduction
Gluteus medius and minimus prox/distal attachments
Prox:
Med: iliac crest
Min: the gluteal surface of the ilium
Distal:
Med: lateral greater trochanter
Min: anterior greater trochanter
Gluteus medius and minimus innervation and blood supply
The superior gluteal nerve (L4-S1) and the superior gluteal artery
Actions of gluteus medius/minimus
Hip Abduction and internal rotation
Piriformis prox/distal attachments
Prox: anterior surface of sacrum
Distal: greater trochanter tip
Piriformis innervation and blood supply
Spinal nerve (L5-S2) and superior/inferior gluteal arteries
Actions of piriformis
hip extension, external rotation, and abduction
Internal rotation when hip is flexed over 60 degrees
