Genetics and Health Week 12 Flashcards
What is the difference between somatic cell gene therapy
and Germline Gene Therapy
Somatic Cell Gene Therapy: Transfer of genes into the somatic cells of the patient, such as cells of the bone marrow, new DNA does not enter eggs or sperm
Germline Gene Therapy: DNA is transferred into cells that produce reproductive cells, eggs or sperm in the body
Mechanical Vectors for Gene Therapy
Liposomes: through fusions
Microprojectiles: through injections
How does antiRNA inhibit gene expression
Introduce siRNA to cleavage the target mRNA, leading to a loss of protein synthesis
The expression of the target gene is silenced
What are the three gene therapy approaches
1) Ex vivo
2) In Situ
3) In vivo
1) Target cells are removed from the body and reinserted into the body
2) Virus is targeted to the cell we wanted to be in
3) Reintroduce the DNA by the blood
Travel to the site and affect those cells
And those cells will starting producing
