  • Pseudomonas: Malignant otitis EXTERNA (outside of tympanic membrane). Elderly diabetics. Can progress to osteomyletis and cranial nerve deficits.

A

Used to identify capsular bacteria–they will swell upon addition of anti-capsular reagant antibodies (“Quellung causes capsular swelling”)
