Arises in the body of the gallbladder or rarely in the cystic duct
Tumor infiltrates the gallbladder locally or diffusely and causes a thickening and rigidity of the wall.

Adjacent liver is often invaded by direct continuity, extending through tissue spaces, the ducts of Luschka, the lymph channels, or some combination of these.
