stores bile and concentrates it by absorbing water
How does the gallbladder expel bile into duodenum?
contracts when food arrives
What is the contraction initiated by?
hormone cholecystokinin
What is the blood supply for the gallbladder?
cystic artery from right hepatic artery
What is the innervation of the gallbladder?
autonomic and pain fibers from the celiac plexus
What are the ducts of the biliary duct system?
right and left hepatic duct
common hepatic duct
cystic duct
bile duct
What does the right and left hepatic duct do?
drains corresponding functional halves of liver
What forms the common hepatic duct?
formed by union of right and left hepatic duct
What does the cystic duct do?
drains the gallbladder
What forms the bile duct?
union of the common hepatic and cystic duct
What forms the hepatopancreatic ampulla?
formed by the union of the bile duct and pancreatic duct
Where does the hepatopancreatic ampulla drain?
empties into second part of duodenum at major duodenal papilla
