the individual has been given full info about the info + advice to be offered + so is able to make an informed decision as to whether to proceed or not
Specific
the consent has been gained expressly for the delivery of oral health advice + oral hygiene instruction
Relevant
the consent has been given by individual who is to receive info or advice, whether it is for themselves or another individual
1.
thus, the individual will be told what will be involved in the session, why it is necessary + what the consequences will be if not receiving info + advice
2.
the info must be given in way that pt understands - this may involve use of visual aids, an interpreter or sign language
3.
individuals must have all questions answered in a way that is understandable without use of dental terminology
4.
if unable to answer a question, the necessary info must be gained from another team member (may be another dcp or dentist)
it may be appropriate for pt to be seen by another members especially with:
the presence with calculus - require professional removal by hygienist, therapist or dentist
the presence of caries -assessment by dentist
presence of poorly fitted dentures - assessment by dentist

What to cover for a session:
attendees must be decided upon so it can be booked, dedicated room within work place (preventative dental care unit or OH room) that is sited away from noise, plan any visual aids + leaflets to take away, run through aims + objectives with another team member to ensure relevant points are covered + is consistent with ethos of work place
