then apply waterproof bib to protect clothing whilst getting pt to sit or stand by sink + mirror

use disclosing liquid to paint of tooth surfaces to highlight the plaque or ask pt to chew disclosing tablet for 1 min, to swish chewed mixture around the mouth + then spit out into the sink

wipe pt lips but don’t allow them to rinse and the plaque will be visible as coloured stain on teeth

Once visible,

pt instructed on how to remove plaque by fully removing the stain as special attention areas are posted out. this is likely around crowded teeth or opposite side for left/right handed pts.

Where guardian is responsible,

nurse will demonstrate correct position taken + then allow parent to carry out the stain removal.
