Patients who have vision loss
explain everything that is taking place, and escort as necessary
Patients who have hearing loss
face them when speaking so they can read lips, see facial expressions, and gestures
People who enter the facility with a service animal
remind people that ask to interact with the animal that the animal is on duty
Patients who have physical limitations
offer assistance getting into and out of chairs
Patients with mental health issues
do not pressure them to talk to you about feelings or intentions
Patients with difficulty communicating
the family can tell you how to communicate with the patient
Patients with developmental delays
make meeting their physiologic needs your priority but encourage them to do as much as they can
Active ROM
when the patient can perform the exercise but might need your encouragement or reminders to do so, at least twice daily
Passive ROM
when you perform them for the patient. repeats each sequence for each joint 5 times on each side of the body except the neck
