What supplies are needed for bathing?
bath towel, washcloth, skin cleanser, gown, body lotion, powder, and deodorant
What are the extra supplies for a bed bath?
bath blanket, wash basin, clen bed linen, and a laundry bag
What is the range for water temperature for bathing?
98.6-115 degrees
Bathing technique
wash from cleanest to dirtiest, rinse the skin, pat dry not rub, and adjust bed height to a comfortable position
Partial bath
consists of cleaning a pts face, neck, hands, back, armpits, buttocks, and perineal area
Perineal area
wash from anterior (front) to posterior (back)
Sitz bath
appliance filled with warm water and placed on the toilet, and pt sits in it for 20–30 minutes
When do you offer oral care?
when a pt awakens, after meals, and prior to bedtime
What are the supplies for oral care?
toothbrush, toothpaste, water, emesis basin, dental floss, washcloth, and towel
Unconscious pt oral care procedure
position on side facing you, towel under head, emesis basin under chin, cleanse mouth without fingers in mouth, and explain procedure to pts throughout activity
What should you report to the nurse if seen during oral care
canker sores, foul smelling or fruity breath, and red, irritated, or bleeding gums
What equipment is needed for bed making?
fitted sheet, mattress pad, flat sheet, pillowcases, lift (draw) sheet, absorbent pads, blankets, and a linen bag
What is the water temp range for grooming?
105-110 degrees
Toileting equipment
bedpan, urinal, or bedside commode
