Fuel System Flashcards
How many tanks are in each wing and what are they?
The fuel system comprises two integral fuel tanks, with one tank located in each wing. Each wing tank incorporates a collector tank and a surge tank. (81214-10-10 Pg 1)
In the right wing how many fuel pumps are there and what are they?
Each wing fuel tank contains the following pumps:
- Ejector fuel pump .
- Wing AC electric fuel pump .
- Three scavenge ejector pumps .
- DC electric fuel pump (right tank only) .
(812 14-10-10 Pg 5)
What is the purpose of the AC pump?
The wing tanks AC electric fuel pump supplies fuel to the following components:
- Onside engine during engine starts .
- Cross side engine during crossfeed operations .
- APU, when engine is not running .
It is also a backup pump in the event of ejector pump failure. (812 14-10-10 Pg 5)
How does the Ejector Fuel Pump work?
The primary wing fuel pump is a venturi ejector pump with no moving parts, and is powered by the respective engine motive flow. It is a self-sustained pump and does not require electrical power to operate. (812 14-10-10 Pg 5)
Where is the fuel temperature sensed?
The digital information indicates the fuel temperature measured in the left fuel tank. (B12 14-10-05 Pg 3)
When selecting the cross feed valve to LOW 1, what happens in the system?
Setting the crossfeed selector knob to LOW 1 position opens the crossfeed valve and activates the AC PUMP 2, feeding both engines from wing tank 2. (B12 14-10-10 Pg 6)
What is the primary purpose of the DC fuel pump?
Provides pressurized fuel for normal APU operation and engine start, when AC power or the AC fuel pump is not available. (B12 14-10-10 Pg 5)
If the total fuel quantity indication is replaced by amber dashes, what does it mean?
AMBER DASHED: invalid information. (B12 14-10-05 Pg 7)
During an electrical emergency and the RAT in use, which fuel pump will be powered?
The right wing AC electric fuel pump (AC PUMP 2) is powered by AC ESS BUS and the DC electric fuel pump is powered by the DC ESS BUS 2. (B1214-10-10 Pg 5)
How is the “total fuel used” reset to zero?
The FUEL USED indication is automatically reset by the FMS upon the first engine start. (MAU Load 21.2 and on) (B12 14-10-10 Pg 3)
Where is the fuel stored? What does each wing tank incorporate?
2 integral wing tanks
- A collector tank
- Surge tank
How many magnetic level indicators are there per wing?
3
What are the fuel pumps are in each wing?
- Ejector Fuel pump
- Wing AC electric fuel pump
- Three scavenge ejector pumps
- DC electric fuel pump (right tank only)
What does the wing AC electric fuel pump supply fuel to?
- Onside engine during engine starts
- Cross side engine during crossfeed operations
- APU, when engine is not running
Left wing AC electric fuel pump is powered by which BUS?
Right wing AC electric fuel pump is powered by which bus?
Left wing - AC BUS 1
Right wing - AC ESS BUS
How many scavenge pumps are there and what do they do?
3 and maintain the fuel level in the collector tank, ensuring a constant flow of fuel to the engine.
What does the right wing DC Fuel pump do?
- Provide fuel for normal APU operation and engine start when AC power not available
Setting the crossfeed valve to LOW 1 does what?
Opens the crossfeed valve and activates the AC pump 2, feeding both engines from wing tank 2.
What closes the engine fuel shutoff valve?
Actuation of the fire handle
When does the fuel low-level warning message activate?
When there is 400kg in the associated wing tank
Engine flameout due to fuel starvation may occur if the airplane is subjected to attitudes greater than?
15 deg nose up or down
The fuel quantity indicator system accuracy is specified as?
+/- 1% of maximum capacity during normal ground attitudes
+/- 2% of maximum capacity during normal flight attitudes
When is the FUEL USED indication reset?
Reset by the FMS upon first engine start
How many water drains per tank?
1
Which fuel pump gets its power supply from AC-ESS BUS?
Auxillary AC2 Pump
By what means can fuel be transferred from the left tank to the right tank?
Select XFEED rotary switch on the overhead fuel panel to LOW 2
What fuel pumps can be found in the wings?
