What happens initially in the event of a fuel spill?
The authorised refilled stops fuelling advises the captain.
How are small spillages dealt with?
Spill fuel is covered with absorbent material.
What is a large spill?
A spill greater than 2 metres - 6 feet wide.
What should happen in the event of a larger spill.
Authorised Refueller stops fuelling and notifies company and TRM and Airport fire service.
All activities, people and vehicles are stopped in the vicinity to reduce risk of ignition - this includes GPU’s and air conditioning units.
If judged to be a fire hazard consider rapid disembarkation.
No vehicles allowed to approach.
In the event if a fuel spill what distance should all engines, GPU’s and air conditioning units be stopped within?
All engines should be stopped within 6 metres - 20 feet of the fuel spill.
What distance should any vehicle not be allowed to approach the spill?
No vehicles should be allowed to approach within 15 metres - 50 feet if the fuel spill.
If a rapid disembarkation is deemed necessary how far away should passengers be moved to?
Passengers should be moved upwind - upslope at least 15 metres - 50 feet from the spill.
Weather Radar and fuel spills?
Do not operate WXR radar within 15 metres - 50 feet of fuel spill.
