ETOPS OM A 8.21 Flashcards
What is ETOPS?
Twin engined operations which contain a point along its route which us greater than 1hr from an adequate airfield
What is an adequate airfield?
An airfield that is available at expected time of arrival and equipped with the necessary facilities - ATC - lights - comms - lighting - weather reporting - radio aids - emergency services and at least 1 instrument approach.
When has an aircraft dispatched?
An aircraft has dispatched when it first moves under its own power with the intention of taking off.
What is the equal time point?
Point along intended route when estimated time to fly to two en-route alternates is equal.
What is an ETOPS significant system?
Engine or other system whose failure could adversely affect the safety of the ETOPS flight or function is important to the continued safe flight and landing.
What is the Extended range entry point?
First point of route that is greater than 60mins single engine cruise speed in still air to an adequate airfield.
What is the Maximum Approved Division Time?
Max permitted flying time in still air from any point along the route to an adequate airfield.
B777 - 180mins
What is the Threshold Distance ?
Distance travelled in still air at single engine in-op cruise speed.
400nm/hr - 1200nm in 180mins
What is the weather window for an airfield to be selected as an ETOPS Alternate?
Weather to be above minima at anticipated time of landing until one hour after time of latest possible landing.
What is the ETOPS planning minima for an airfield with a precision approach?
Ceiling - DA/H + 200ft
Visibility - RVR/VIS + 800m
What is the ETOPS planning minima for an airfield with a non-precision approach?
Ceiling - MDA/H + 400ft
Visibility - RVR/VIS + 1500m
Once dispatched what minima apply for an ETOPS en-rote Alternate?
Normal AOM applies.
What should be considered if an ETOPS en-route alternate weather deteriorates?
Re-routing should be considered to ensure the aircraft remains within 180mins of an adequate airfield.
What is the captains responsibility with regards to ETOPS en-route alternates?
It is the captains responsibility to be aware of the nearest adequate airfield at all times and that the aircraft complies with all ETOPS rules even in the event of a re-route.
