EGPWS Flashcards
Can EGPWS warnings be ignored?
EGPWS warnings must never be ignored.
OM A 8.13.2.a
What actions must be taken in the event of EGPWS warning?
In the event of a GPWS Warning the Pilot Flying shall immediately execute the fleet-specific procedure.
The aircraft will be climbed until known to be clear of terrain or MSA as appropriate.
Inform ATC.
All EGPWS Warnings must be reported by ASR and an explanatory entry made in the AML.
What action should be taken in a EGPWS warning is received whilst flying an emergency turn procedure?
Follow the ETP
The terrain clearance envelope is less conservative than the EGPWS Warning/Caution envelope.
If ETP avoids obstacles/terrain by turning, an EGPWS Warning or Caution might be generated before or during this turn as the EGPWS does not anticipate turns and will only assesses threats only along a linear extrapolation of the instantaneous flight path vector.
Maximising climb angle whilst following ETP ground track provides obstacle clearance.
