Fuel Flashcards

1
Q

What is the normal fuel loading sequence

A
  1. Wing tank outer cells filled to capacity
  2. Then the inner cells are
  3. Total wing tank capacity is 27,500 lbs
  4. Center tanks filled once wing tanks are filled

(The center tanks are not normally filled until wing tanks are filled)

Q

With fuel in the center tank, what is the normal(automatic) fuel feed priority?

A

With flaps fully retracted: center tank is consumed first followed by the wing tanks
1. ONLY wing tank pumps are equipped with
Pressure transducers
2. Pressure reducers allow center tank
Pump pressure to preferentially supply
The respective engine

With flaps extended: center tank pumps auto shutoff per auto logic, allowing wing tank fuel to be consumed

Q

What is the aircrafts fuel configuration?

A
  1. One tank in each wing section, divided into inner and outer cells
  2. A center tank located in the center section of the fuselage.
  3. Surge tanks are located outboard each outer cell and are not depicted on the display

Q

When will the transfer valves automatically open, allowing outer cell fuel to gravity to the respective inner cell.

A

Both transfer valves auto open when EITHER wing tank inner cell fuel level reaches approximately 1,650 lbs.

Q

What’s the function of the L & R TK PUMPS pbs?

Pic

A

TK PUMPS pbs are used to manually control their respective Wing Tank pumps:

  1. ON (lights out) - pump runs continuously until pb is selected OFF
  2. OFF (white) - pump is deactivated and remains off until pb is selected
  3. LO (Amber) - pump is on but pump pressure is low

Q

Are the wing tank fuel pumps equipped with automatic logic?

A

No, they are not. Pump operation is commanded by its respective pbs and must always be manually controlled.

Q

What’s the function of the MODE SEL pb?

Pic

A
  1. AUTO (light out) - provided CTR TK PUMP pbs are selected ON (lights out), the center tank pumps will be automatically activated and deactivated as required by automated logic
  2. MAN (white) - automatic pump activation/deactivation logic is off. Center tank pumps must be manually controlled.

Q

What are the ECAM indications when Center Tank fuel is being consumed?
(Pic)

A
  1. CTR TK FEEDG appears on the E/WD memo section
  2. On the ECAM FUEL page, the center tank pump indications will be inline green
  3. When the center pumps are commanded off, per computer logic, pump indications will be horizontal green lines.

Q

What are the controls and indications of the fuel Crossfeed Valve?
(Pic)

A
  1. The fuel Crossfeed Valve is controlled with the X-FEED pb:
    A. Closed (light out) - valve is
    Closed
    B. ON (white) - valve has been commanded
    Open
    C. OPEN (green) - valve is in the open
    Position
  2. When the Crossfeed is open:
    A. FUEL X FEED (green) - appears on
    E/WD memo section
    B. On ECAM FUEL page, the Crossfeed
Valve appears as a horizontal in line
    (Green)
  3. While in transition the valve indication appears as an amber circle with a diagonal line.

Q

What are the indications of a degraded Fuel Quantity Indications (FQI) System?
(Pic)

A

Amber hash marks cover the last two digits of fuel quantity displays of the:
A. FOB indication on the E/WD
AND
B. The individual fuel tank quantities on the
ECAM FUEL page.

Q

What’s the meaning of an amber half box surrounding the FOB indication on the E/WD?
(Pic)

A

There are three possible causes ALL as a result of trapped fuel:

  1. Both center tanks have failed(with useable fuel in the tank)
  2. Both center tank pumps have been turned off (with useable fuel in the tank)
  3. A wing tank transfer valve has failed to open)
