Anti Ice/Rain ICE Flashcards
Which areas on the aircraft are provided ice protection?
Wings outboard 3 slats (slats 3, 4, 5)
Engines nacelle leading edges
Conditions that require wing anti ice
Inflight: indication of ice on the airframe seen on the Structural Ice Indicator between the windshields OR
On the windshield wipers
The conditions that require the use of engine anti ice
If icing conditions exist or are anticipated both on the ground and in flight
(Icing conditions exist at 10* C or below and visible moisture)
Must an engine bleed valve be open to use its respective engine anti ice system?
No
It is plumbed independently from the high pressure compressor
What is the caution regarding the use of wing anti ice with slats extended?
Extended flights into icing should be avoided due to reduced wing anti ice capability with the slats extended
What are the indications when anti ice is selected ON?
Pic
- ON - (blue) illuminates on respective ENG 1/2 pb
2. ENG A.ICE and IGNITION - (green) appears on memo section
What are the indications of wing anti ice being ON?
Pic
- ON - (blue) illuminates on the wing pb
- WING A.ICE - (green) on the E/WD memo section
- ANTI ICE - (white) on each side of the BLEED page along with green arrows on each side when the respective anti ice valve has opened
What’s the meaning of the FAULT (Amber) light on the WING and ENG 1/2 ANTI ICE pbs?
(Pic)
- Appears momentarily during valve transition
- Represents disagreement between selected position and actual valve position
- For the WING pb - indicates low bleed air pressure is detected
What’s the operation of the Probe and Window heating system?
Pic
- On the ground - with at least one eng running, ALL flight deck windows/windshields, pitot tubes, static ports and AOA vanes are auto heated electrically at low level
- The TAT probes are not heated on the ground
- In the air - heat levels are increased and the TAT probes are heated
What is the operation of the Probe and Window heating system with the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pb selected ON (blue)?
(Pic)
- On ground - with no engines operating, ALL flight deck windows/windshields, pitot tubes, static ports and AOA vanes are heated
- The TAT probes are NOT heated on the ground
- After first engine start - system reverts to programmed auto logic but the ON light remains illuminated unless manually selected back to AUTO (light out)
