Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS)
S/Sx of FMS
-Pain, stiffness, and tenderness at specific sites like the back of the neck, or trunk.
-The tender points are also trigger points that if palpated can elicit pain in a predictable, reproducible pattern.
-Pain is usually described as burning or gnawing.
-Increased muscle tenderness due to inability to tolerate pain.
-GI disturbances
-Genitourinary manifestations: dysuria, frequency, urgency, pelvic pain
-Cardiovascular: dyspnea, chest pain, dysrhythmias
-Visual disturbances: blurry vision and dry eyes
-Neurologic symptoms: including forgetfulness and concentration problems.
FMS Meds
-Antidepressants: Amitriptyline, nortriptyline
-Anticonvulsants: gabapentin, pregabalin
-SNRIs: duloxetine
-Trazadone, tramadol
All promote sleep, reduce pain, and reduce muscle spasms
