What is polymyalgia Rheumatica?

A

Large cell vasculitis presenting as chrome pain syndrome affecting muscles and joints.
Patients always over 50 y/o

How does polymyalgia rheumatica present?

A

Pain and stiffness in the shoulders, pelvic girdle and neck.

Worse in the morning, after rest or inactivity. Interferes with sleep.

How do you diagnose polymyalgia rheumatica?

A

Raised ESR and CRP
(temporal artery biopsy may show GCA, and may have anaemia of chronic disease)
