What is the pathology of fibroadenoma?

A
  • Developing breast tissue (<25yrs) lobular tissue, units and stroma still formed
  • May develop in fibroadenoma

How are fibroadenomas classified?

A
  • Juvenile (usually early adolescents)
  • Common
  • Giant (over 4cm)

What is the management of fibroadenomas?

A

IF
1. Young (<25yrs) and small fibroadenomas (<3cm on imaging) = WATCHFUL WAIT w/o biopsy

  1. Over 4cm on imaging = BIOPSY
    - Need to exclude phyllodes tumour

Bigger lesions = excision
Smaller lesions = mammotome

What is the progression of fibroadenomas?

A
10% = increase in size
30% = regression
60% = remain the same

During pregnancy may increase a lot and sequester milk
