A
  • Multiple organisms
  • Initially anaerobic organisms e.g. gardnerella
  • Consequent fall in lactic acid results in increased aerobic lactobacilli

  • Sexual activity (although not thought of as STI)
  • Afro-Caribbean
  • IUCD
  • Vaginal douching
  • Bubble baths

How is BV treated?

A

Metronidazole

  • no alcohol
  • can now be used throughout pregnancy (high doses still not recommended)
