Functions of female reproductive system
Produce ova, transports ova, provides environment for developing fetus, secretes hormones
Female reproductive system consists of what organs
ovarie, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina, clitorus, mammary gland, and vulva (external genitalia)
Fallopian tubes
pathway of ovum (egg) into uterus
Uterus
responsible for housing and nourishing the embryo from implantation of the fertilized egg until birth.
Vagina
Organ of sexual intercourse. Muscular tube that extends from the cervix to the exterior of the body.
Clitorus
Organ of sexual response in the female. composed of erectile tissue with sensory nerve endings
Vulva
Responsible for protecting the internal genitals. make up the exterior genitalia…labia majora, labia minora
Mammary glands
located in breast, contains milk ducts that lead to opening in the nipple. Produce milk.
Ectopic pregnancy
Implantation and growth of fertilized ovum in places other than the uterine cavity.
