What is the ovarian follicle?
A cellular sac in which oocyte matures in response to FSH and LH
What doe the oocytes that aren’t fertilised undergo?
Atresia
What is polycystic ovarian disease?
When many small follicles develop instead of one dominant one - use ultrasound to observe development
Stages of follicles
- Primary follicle
- Secondary follicle
- Graafian follicle
- Corpus luteum
if fertilisation doesn’t occur - Corpus albicans
What does the secondary follicle release?
Oestrogen
What does the corpus luteum release?
Progesteron
