Female Genital System Flashcards
What two folds does the peritoneum make?
- rectouterine fold
- vesicouterine fold
What are the internal female genital organs?
Ovary, uterine tube, uterus and vagina
What are the external female genitalia?
Labium majora, labium menora, vestibule of vagina, vestibular glands and the clitoris
What is the peritoneal covering of the uterus called?
Perimetrium
What divides the peritoneal pockets of the female pelvis?
Broad ligament
What does the rectouterine fold contain?
The subserous fibrous connective tissue known as the sacrouterine ligament, as well as the (autonomic) inferior hypogastric nerve plexus.
Where is the ovarian fossa?
On the lateral wall of the pelvis, bounded by the division of the common iliac artery.
The ovaries is within a peritoneum called the..?
Mesovarium
The suspensory ligament attaches to which pole of the ovary?
Superior (tubal)
Which ligament attaches to the inferior (uterine) pole of the ovary?
Proper ovarian ligament
The hilum of the ovary is located where?
Along the mesovarium border
The end of the uterine tubes with fimbriae is called?
The infundibulum of the uterine tube
What are the parts of the uterine tube from the uterus out?
Intramural part
Salpinx
Ampulla
Infundibulum
By what is the uterine tube connected to the broad ligament?
Mesosalpinx
What is the arterial supply of the ovary?
Ovarian artery and ovarian branch from the uterine artery
What is the arterial supply of the uterine tube?
The uterine tube is supplied by anastomosing branches of the ovarian and uterine arteries. The tubal branch of the uterine artery and tubal branches of the ovarian artery form the ovarian arcade.
What is the venous drainage of the ovaries?
Ovarian vein
What is the venous drainage of the uterus?
Uterine venous plexus
What nerves accompanies the ovarian artery and vein?
Superior mesenteric nerve plexus and renal nerve plexus
What two parts can you divide the uterus into?
A body and a cervix
What is the narrow junction between the body of the uterus and the cervix called?
Isthmus of the uterus. It can be identified as a shallow constriction on the outside of the uterus.
What two parts can you divide the cervix into?
Supravaginal and vaginal part
What is the opening of the uterus called from inside the vagina
External os of the uterus
What are the arteries of the uterus?
The uterus mainly recieves blood from the uterine artery, which is a branch from the internal iliac. It courses over the ureter in the subperiotoneal tissue to the base of the brad ligament. It reaches the wall of the uterus near the cervix. It divides into a descending branch -> descending vaginal artery, and an ascending main artery.
The uterine artery also gives off an ovarian branch and a tubal branch.
What veins drains the uterus?
An uterine plexus drains the uterus via the uterine vein into the internal lilac vein.
Which nerves innervates the uterus?
Autonomic: interior hypogastric plexus and pelvic splanchnic nerves which forms the uterovaginal plexus (Frankenhaüser ganglion)
Which ligament runs in the inguinal canal?
Round ligament
What are the mucosal landmarks of the vagina?
Transverse folds called rugae, longitudinal folds called vaginal columns produced by the venous plexuses in the walls of the vagina.
The urethral carina of the vagina is produced by the urethra.
What is the arterial supply of the vagina?
Vaginal branches from the uterine artery
Branches from inferior vesicle artery
Internal pudendal artery
Which veins drains the vagina?
Venous drainage is to the vaginal venous plexus lying adjacent to the vagina. The vaginal venous plexus is connected to the plexuses of adjacent urogenital organs and drains into internal iliac vein.
What is the nerve supply of the vagina?
Autonomic: uterovaginal plexus
Inferior parts of the vagina is innervated by the pudendal nerve.
What is the mons pubis?
A skin-covered fat pad overlying the pubic symphysis
