Define fascia
The connective tissue that lies directly under the skin, connecting the skin above to underlying muscles or bones below
What is the fascia divided into?
Superficial & deep
What is superficial?
It’s a fibrous tissue filled with fat
What is the deep fascial
It’s a dense fibrous tissue, deep to the superficial fascia
Where is the deep fascia thicker?
Distal joints forming the “retinacula”
In the palms of the hands and soles of the feet, forming the “aponeurosis” to protect the underlying tissue
It divides the skeletal muscle into groups by barriers called”intermuscular septa”
Where is the superficial fascia thick and rich in fat?
Breast, anterior abdominal wall, buttock
Where is the superficial fascia thin and devoid in fat?
Eyelids, ear auricles
Where does the superficial have dense collagen fibers
Scalp, back of the neck, palms of the hands and soles of the feet
Functions of the superficial fascia
Prevents heat loss
Thicker in the women
