Q

What are functions of the bone?

A

Shape → provides the central axis and gives form and shape to the body, some bones support the body weight
Movement → produced the attached skeletal muscle
Protection → protects the underlyingor contained structures
Calcium → stored form of calcium, bones play a major role in calcium balance in the body
Blood cells → factory for the production of different blood cells

Q

What are the ends of the bone called?

A

Epiphyses

17
Q

What are the diaphysis and epiphysis separated by?

A

Cartilaginous plate

18
Q

Define epiphyseal plate

A

Responsible for growing in length and ossifies at puberty

19
Q

What is metaphysis

A

The expanded part of thedaphys is that is adjacent to the plate

20
Q

Define short bone

A

Cubical in shape, found in the wrist and ankle

21
Q

Define flat bone

A

Some bones of the skull and scapulae

22
Q

Define irregular bone

A

These can’t fit in any of the categories, vertebrae and some bones in the skull

23
Q

Define sesamoid bones

A

Small nodules of bone that are found in certain tendons where they rub over bony surfaces
Helps reducing the friction on the tendon

24
Q

Which is the largest sesamoid bone?

A

Patella, which is located in the tendon of quadriceps muscle

25

Give example of pneumatic bone

A

Maxilla
