Blood Vessels Flashcards
Define blood vessels
An elastic tubular channel through which the blood circulates
What are the 4 types of blood vessels?
Artery, vein, capillary, sinusoid
What are characteristics of artery?
Oxygenated blood, from heart to body, highly elastic, lumen recoils narrower, gives off branches, each is accompanied by one vein
What are characteristics of vein?
Deoxygenated blood, from body to heart, not elastic, less muscular, lumen collapses and wider lumen, receives tributaries, veins of the lower limb contain valves
Define capillary and sinusoid
Site of exchange between blood and tissue
What use characteristics of the capillary?
Continuous wall (no pores), lumen is rounded
What are characteristics of sinusoid?
Discontinuous wall (has pores), lumen is irregular
Artery
Vein
Capillary
Sinusoid
