Anatomy- Lecture 1 Flashcards
Define anatomy
The study of body parts and their relationships to one another
Whatis the anatomical position?
Standing upright eyes looking forward, arms by the sides and palms facing forward with thumbs pointing laterally and feet together
What is anatomical planes?
These are imaginary planes that divide the body in two parts
What is sagittal plane?
Planes that runs vertically and divides the body into equal right and left halves
What is transverse plane?
Planes that runs horizontally and divides the body into upper and lower halves
What is coronal plane?
Plane that runs vertically and divides the body into front and back halves
What is medial?
Nearer to the middleline
What is lateral?
Away from the midline
What is superior?
Towards the head
What is inferior?
Towards the feet
What is proximal?
Nearer to the trunk
What is distal
Away from the trunk
What is anterior?
Front
What is posterior?
Back
What is flexion?
Bending easily
What is extension?
Straightening
What is abduction?
Moving away from the body
What is adduction ?
Adding again to the body
What is circumduction ?
Drawing a circle with the limb
What is medial rotation?
A rotational movement towards the midline
What is lateral rotation?
Rotation away from the midline
What is supination?
Resting on the spine
What is pronation?
Laying on the face
What is inversion?
Turning the soles of the feet inside towards the midline
What is eversion?
Taking the soles of the feet away from the midline
What is dorsiflexion?
Standing on the heel
What is planter flexion?
Standing on the toes
What is shown in the picture?
Coronal plane
What is shown in the picture?
Saggital plane
What is shown in the picture?
Transverse plane
Name 1 and 2
1 → superior
2→ inferior
Shoulder, arm, elbow, forearm, wrist, hand
Hip, thigh, knee, leg, ankle, foot
Where do the movements occur?
At joints
What is a joint?
A meeting of two bones with a little space between them
