Face Flashcards
Learn the face
Facial muscles develop in
Mesoderm in the 2nd pharyngeal arches
Smiling Muscle
Zygomaticus
Grinning Muscle
Risorius
Blowing/Sucking; Trumpeters muscle
Buccinator
Chins Muscle
Mentalis
Kissing Muscle
Orbicularis Oris
Blood Supply of the face comes from the
External carotid artery
Branches of external carotid artery
- Superior thyroid 2. ascedning pharyngeal 3. lingual 4. facial 5. occipital 6. posterior auricular 7. superficial temporal 8. maxillary
Vebous drainage of the face
Facial vein
Dangerous Area of the face
Root of the nose two angles of the mouth
Cavernous Sinus Thrombosis
Due to the connection of facial vein to superior opthalmic vein. affects CN 3, 4, 6; ophthalmic and maxillary division of CN 5; internal carotid artery
Superio Sagittal Sinus
Upper Falx cerebri
Inferior Sagittal Sinus
Lower Falx cerebri
Straight sinus
Junction of falx cerebri with tentorium cerebelli
what forms straight sinus
inferior sagittal and great cerebral vein
Right Transverse Sinus
From superior sagittal sinus
Left transverse sinus
from straight sinus
Sigmoid Sinus
From transverse sinus to the Internal Jugular Vein
Muscles that closes the jay
temporalis, masseter, medial pterygoid
Muscles that open the jay
Lateral pterygoid
Trigeminal nerve (sensory and motor innervations)
mucous membrane of ant 2/3 of tongue; musclea of mastication
Facial nerve ( sensory and motor innervations)
anterior 2/3 of taste bud; muscle of facial expression
Temporal Branches of Facial Nerve from Parotid Plexus
Temporal, Zygomatic, Buccal, Mandibular, Cervical
Facial Nerve goes to what ganglion
Geniculate Ganglion
Facial Nerve Branches
- Greater petrosal Nerve - lacrimal gland (passes the foramen lacerum) 2. nerve to stapedius - supply stapedial muscle, prevent hypermovement of stapes 3. Chorda tympani - joins with the lingual nerve - supply submandibular and sublingual salivary gland; taste sensation from ant 2/3 of tongue 4. post auricular, nerve to post. belly of digastric, nerve to sylomastoid muscle - exit from stylomastoid foramen 5. Parotid Plexus - divides into 5 branches
Corneal Blink Reflex
Afferent Limb - nasociliary nerve of opthalmic division of CN 5 Efferent Limb - Temporal branch of Facial Nerve
Mastication
CN 5
Facial Expresion
CN 7
