-several rod cells connect to a single neurone
-rod cells send a single set of impulses to brain (action potentials)
-low visual acuity as brain can’t distinguish between rod cells

-cones detecting green light are non functioning
-there are 3 different types of cone
-other colours are seen due to stimulation of more than one cone/ pigment
