How do flowers guide bees to their pollen?
UV light is visible to bees and they can see where the middle of the flower is via this light
how are flowers modified to get pollen onto bee?
sweet smelling
when the bee tries to drink the nectar, pollen at the entrance of nectar-containing cavity is deposited, normally onto the head for the bee
are diurnal flowers scented?
NO. they have a long corolla (petals) to make them attractive
are nocturnal flowers scented?
YES. very sweetly. moths and nocturnal butterflies have a very good sense of smell
how are bat-attracting flowers adapted for their function?
very large
very sweet/fruity/meaty smelling
produce lots of nectar
how are bird-attracting flowers adapted
long thin passage to nectar for beak to fit through
thin nectar
how are pitcher plants adapted for bats to roost in them:
they have a specialised shape that reflects the cali of then bat so they can be easily located
how do plants ensure their pollen is transported to a conspecific and not wasted on a hetero?
they have speculated shapes, smells, colour patterns which attract only a limited variety of fauna- this ensure their pollen will be transported to this of their own species.
