Experimental Design Flashcards
True or False: Operationalization is the process of carefully planning out of the details in a study’s design
This statement is false. Operationalization is the process of defining how a particular variable will be assessed or measured. An example of this would be defining “caffeine consumption” as “the number of milligrams of caffeine consumed per day”.
Studies where researchers analyze preexisting patterns. These can include cohort, longitudinal, and cross sectional studies
Observational Studies
Variable that affects both the indepedent and dependent variables. It can obscure the relaionship studied.
Confounding Variables
Varible that may explain the counterintuitive relationship between independent and dependent variables / provide mechanistic link between indeendent and dependent variables
Mediating Variables
Variable that modulates the intensity of an outcome
Moderating variable
Negative Control
Group that does not receive the treatment/ Placebo
