What are aerobic exercises?
- involves major muscles groups
- stregthens cardiovascular system
- jogging, biking , rope jumping
What are anaerobic exercises?
high intensity (requires more oxygen than can be taken in)
- sprinting, weight lifting
What are the components of physical fitness?
- muscle strength and endurance
- cardio respiratory endurance
- flexibility
- agility
What are the physical benefits of exercise?
- improves function of lungs
- delays degenerative aging
- lowers resting heart rate
- lowers LDL cholesterol
- increases HDL cholesterol
What is the importance of exercise when it comes to stress?
- fit body, fit mind
- recovery of stressor is more important than how much you react to stressor
- fit individuals wont react to the stressor with as much intensity as someone unfit
What does exercise have to do with telomere length?1
studies show that people with fit lifestyles have less chances of telomeres shortening than sedentary individuals
What are the effects of living a high physical activity life on percieved stress?
people that had high PA were 50% less likely to report hihg percieved stress and 75% more likely to report moderate percived stress.
What other things can exercise do?
Exercise can decrease symptoms in people with GAD, PTSD and OCD
