Exercise Flashcards
What does physical activity do to your body? (2 points)
1) increases your breathing rate so you get extra oxygen
2) increase your heart rate
What is used during exercise and why?
During exercise, glycogen is used, as the muscles use glucose quickly. This means that glycogen is converted back into glucose to provide more energy.
When does anaerobic respiration occur and what is it?
If there’s not enough oxygen for aerobic respiration then anaerobic respiration occurs, it is the incomplete breakdown of glucose which produces lactic acid.
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration?
glucose —> energy + lactic acid
What does anaerobic respiration lead to?
An oxygen debt, which is why breathing and pulse stay high after exercise.
