Cell Organisation Flashcards
What are large multicellular organisms made out of?
Organ systems, which exchange and transport materials.
How does a cell become specialised and when does it occur?
Cells become specialised by differentiation, during the development of multicellular organism.
What is a tissue and what are some examples?
A tissue is a similar group of cells that work together to perform a function. Three examples are:
1) muscular tissue – contracts to move whatever it’s attached to
2) glandular tissue – makes and secretes hormones and enzymes
3) epithelial tissue – covers some parts of the body
What are organs?
A group of similar tissues that work together to perform a function.
What is an example of an organ, what type of tissues does it contain and what do they all do?
An example of an organ is the stomach and it contains muscular, glandular and epithelial tissue.
1) muscular – moves the stomach wall to churn up food
2) glandular – makes digestive juices to digest food e.g. enzymes
3) epithelial – lines the stomach insides and outside
What is an organ system and what is an example?
A group of organs working together to perform a particular function, for example the digestive system.
What is the digestive system made up of? (5 points)
1) glands – pancreas, salivary glands – produce digestive juices
2) stomach and small intestine – digest food
3) liver – produces bile
4) small intestine – absorbs small food molecules
5) large intestine – absorbs water from undigested food
