EXAM REVISION Flashcards
Met - Exam revision
The Formula for working out Density Altitude from Pressure Altitude with a given OAT
DA = PA - (120 x ISA DEV)
Density altitude = Pressure Altitude - (120 x ISA Deviation)
Met - Exam revision
An aircraft is at FL100 and the OAT is -35℃. What is the Density Altitude
6400 FT
ISA DEVIATION
* 15 - (alt x 2) where altitude is the pressure altitude of 10,000 feet
* 15 - (10 x 2) = -5℃
* OAT given is -35℃
* (-35℃) - (-5℃) = -30℃
* ISA DEV -30℃
DESNITY ALTITUDE
* DA = PA - (120 x ISA Dev)
* DA = 10,000 - (120 x -30)
* 10,000 - 3600
* DENSITIY ALTITUDE 6400 ft
The Formula for working out Pressure Altitude from True Altitude
PA = TA - 30 x (Local QNH - 1013)
Transition Level: FL190
Transition Altitude: 18,000 ft
QNH 1023 hPa
A flight crew who faces an emergency at cruis level decides to turn back to the departure aerodrome. Due to the dynamic situation, the crew forgets to set local QNH. What will be the altimeter reading after landing (Assume 1 hPa = 27 ft)
Exams now typically use 1 hPa = 30 ft
53 ft
- use formula
ATPLQ | Composition, Extent, Vertical Division
Calculating average tropopause height
TROP HEIGHT = ( 16 X COS(LAT) ) X 3280
Winter subtract 3000 ft, Summer add 3000 ft
ATPLQ | Atmospheric Pressure
Half of Air Pressure
Half of Air Density
- 18,000 ft
- 22,000 ft
ATPLQ | ISA
Lapse rate
2℃ / 1000 ft
0.65℃ / 100 m
6.5℃ / 1000 m
ATPLQ | Wind
Calculating temperature rise on lee side of mountain
TEMP RISE = ( LEE CBa - WINDWARD CBa ) X 1.2
Where Cb = cloudbase
ATPLQ | Wind
