it is called a dark reaction because the Calvin cycle does not directly rely on light to produce sugar BUT is a misnomer because it is dependent on the products of light reactions, which do require light!

what does energy flows mean?
the flow of energy within the ecosystem of living things… ex: sunlight to photosynthetic organisms… sunlight is converted into chemical energy which fuels the whole world (directly and indirectly!)
what does matter cycles mean?
all the matter than has been on earth is still here, it is just recycled and has been used over and over again by different things. Decomposers are a huge part of our ecosystems! they help the matter on earth cycle
what are decomposers
ex: fungi and bacteria… they help break down matter on earth so their molecules can be recycled and reused by other organisms.
what does life webs mean?
this relates to the food chain… everyone in the ecosystem relies on one another!
1st law of thermodynamics!
energy cannot be created nor destroyed only can alter its form
2nd law of thermodynamics
energy is transferred only between two bodies of different temperatures… only flows from body with high temperature to body with low temperature
what are indicator organisms useful for?
can be useful for evaluating the health of organisms
indicator organism
organisms that reflects the health quality of the ecosystem… those that are intolerant to indicators shows good quality of the environment
