- prevents the shedding of the viral protein coat so it can’t replicate

have to take at least 48 hours after symptoms start (fever) or it will turn into viral pneumonia
acyclovir (Zovirax) uses and side effects
- herpes
- dangerous drug: neuropathies, parasthesias, confusion, renal toxicity, bone marrow suppresion

- BBW: tendon pain, esp in the achilles tendon, can turn into ruptured achilles tendon
