Exam 3: Cancer Genomics Flashcards
What is a genome?
sequence of DNA, copy number variations, and structural changes to chromosomes.
What is Epigenome?
Record of chemical changes to DNA and proteins. (chemical Modifications to DNA and histones)
What describes the mRNA and MircoRNA expression patterns?
Transcriptome
The entire set of proteins that is expressed by a genome or cell at a certain time?
Proteome
What are the goals of Cancer Genomics?
- Find new cancer drugs
- find new therapeutic targets
- move towards personalized cancer therapy
What is the concept of Personalized Therapy?
Using information about a patients unique genetic makeup to tailor treatment s= to individual needs.
Where do we stand with personalized therapy now?
There is still all of criticism for the methods because right now it isn’t looking very promising . Some patients don’t respond to treatment and others develop resistance.
What are the levels of analysis in Cancer Genomics?
Genome
Epigenome
Transcriptome
Proteome
