Exam 2: Chapter 12: Emerging Hallmarks Flashcards
What are the 6 Hallmarks of cancer?
- Apoptosis
- Angiogenesis
- Metastasis
- Cell immorality
- Innate immune system (Wound healing and inflammation)
- Adaptive immune system
How does the immune system support and fight cancer?
Fighting: Adaptive Immune System
Supporting : Innate immune system
What are the three Stromal Cells of tumors
- Macrophages
- Endothelial cells
- Fibroblast
How do Macrophages support a tumor
- They secrete growth factors that support tumor cell division
- their ROS damage DNA and increase the rate of mutation in tumor cells
How do Endothelial cells support a tumor
Activated to create new blood vessels as apart of angiogenesis
How do Fibroblast support a tumor
- Secrete growth factors that support cell division
- Fibrosis leads to spaces for the tumor to expand
- Braks down barriers like the basal membrane so cancer cells can spread.
Do scientist need to activate or inhibit Apoptosis
They need to reactivate it since it is disabled by cancer cells
Do scientist need to activate or inhibit angiogenesis?
They need to inhibit it since cancer activated it
Do scientist need to activate or inhibit Metastasis?
They need to inhibit it since cancer cells activate it
Do scientist need to activate or inhibit cell immortality?
they need to inhibit it since cancer cells activate it
Do scientist need to activate or inhibit the innate immune system?
need to inhibit it since it supports cancer
Do scientist need to activate or inhibit the adaptive immune system?
need to activate it since it fights cancer cells
