what is informed consent?

A
  • making ppts aware of the aims of the research, procedures and their rights (including the right to withdraw)
  • ppts then make an informed judgement whether or not to take part

  • deliberate misleading or withholding information from ppts at any stage of the investigation

  • ppts should be issued with a consent letter or form detailing all relevant info which might affect their decision to participate

how do you deal with deception and protection from harm?

A
  • at the end of the study, ppts should give a full debrief (ppts should be aware of the true aims of the investigation and any details they were not supplied)
  • ppts should be told what their data will be used for and given the right to withdraw during the study and the right to withhold data if they wish
  • ## if ppt is subject to stress or embarrassment then they will require counselling and the researcher provides this
