A
- hypersensitivity reaction
- most often triggered by infections
- minor and major forms

Features of erythema multiforme
A
- target lesions
- back of hands/feet, then spreads to torso
- upper limbs more than lower limbs
- occasional itch
- major form -> mucosal involvement

Causes of erythema multiforme
A
- herpes simplex virus (or other viruses)
- idiopathic
- bacteria (mycosplasma, streptococcus)
- drugs (penicillin, sulphonamides, NSAIDs, allopurinol)
- connective tissue disease (SLE)
- sarcoidosis
