A
- chronic inflammatory condition of unknown aetiology
- probably immune-mediated

Features of lichen planus
A
- itchy, purple, papular rash
- palms, soles, genitalia, flexors
- Wickhams striae (white lines on surface rash)
- oral involvement ~50%
- nail involvement (thinning, ridging)

A
- gold
- quinine
- thiazides

Management of lichen planus
A
- potent topical steroids
- benzydamine mouthwash
- severe -> oral steroids, immunosuppression

Lichen sclerosus
A
- inflammatory condition
- affects genitalia
- elderly females most common
- causes atrophy of epidermis -> white plaques

Features of lichen sclerosis
A
- white patches that may scar
- itching is prominent
- results in pain during intercourse or urination

Management of lichen sclerosis
A
- topical steroids and emollients
- follow up due to risk of vuvlal cancer
