- severe primary infection of skin by herpes simplex virus 1 or 2
- more common in children with atopic eczema

A
- rapidly progressing painful rash
- monomorphic punched-out erosions (circular, depressed, ulcerated)
- 1-3mm

Management of eczema herpeticum
A
- potentially life threatening -> ADMIT
- IV aciclovir
